The information technology infrastructure (ITI ) program provides students with the skills to design, build, implement, administer, secure and maintain IT infrastructure/networking solutions. ITI majors learn network management, systems administration, hardware troubleshooting techniques, network and information security and resource management. Students take additional courses in Web design, database design and programming, and complete the College of Business and Economics requirements. There is a specific emphasis on how to use information technology to solve business problems as well as developing strong communication skills. Other program highlights include: (1) Curriculum - The ITI curriculum is driven by the needs of the IT industry and with input from the Wisconsin ITI Business Advisory Board; (2) Facilities – Courses are taught in state-of-the-art computer labs mimicking network operation centers specific to the ITI program. The use of technology in business has increased the demand for infrastructure support personnel. Graduates of the program are well prepared for a broad range of computing positions. Network systems and data communication analysts are predicted to be the fastest growing occupations in the nation. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects 53.4 percent job growth from 2006-2016. The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development calculates the average income in this area for those with a bachelor’s degree to be $56,000 and above. |
